What Our Program Provides

"Helping Hands Outreach to Elders has saved my life!” is one comment from a woman in her 80s who had lost any hope of being able to stay in her lifelong home. Her sentiments are echoed by many others who have been helped by neighborly Helping Hands volunteers over the past 7 years in rural northeast Stearns County, Minnesota.  In fact, 382 older adults have been given over 30,483 hours of free services to help them remain their homes!

We provide a wide variety of services through a network of neighborhood volunteers. We try to listen to the needs expressed by elders while appreciating their strengths. We respect and defer to the caring of immediate family members and friends and work with them to lend a hand to the elder. When appropriate, we help the elder access other helpful resources.

The “neighbor to neighbor” approach builds on trusting relationships, and links the elders to the broader community.
