Why We Do What We Do

We are excited about the potential we see in older adults to help their communities be healthy and grow! Our work began as an outreach to help older adults who were experiencing challenges to remain safely and comfortably at home. Older adults in need deserve a response by the community. Those services are now in place. Many older adults need transportation, homemaking and chores assistance, help with insurance or other household business, social contacts, or information to help them make healthy lifestyle choices. But certainly not all older adults are frail, in fact, most of them are not.

As we have worked among older adults, we are convinced of the tremendous resource they are for our communities. Our program draws upon the strengths and abilities of those who are strong and active to support those who are in need of support. We have a number of persons in their 80s who devote several hours every week telephoning other older adults to check on their needs and help them stay connected with the community.

Our vision is to facilitate the caring of good neighbors in all parts of our service area. We work to help the communities to become more mindful of the elders in their communities, not as problems and not only for what they did in the past in building our communities, but also for the all they can bring to build our communities today.
